We Are Barnet Collective

We advocate for shared, collective activities and aim to break down barriers between volunteers and recipients, so that everyone is a beneficiary, and everyone a collective member.

It all started with that little fish pie, for a single displaced, marginalised individual.

Just a little supplement to a diet, and all too soon we were working with schools and communities, providing fresh fruit and veg for a future built on empathy.

We are a group of local people who have witnessed and experienced the hidden poverty within our own leafy borough, and have come together in an effort to create a support network.

We partner with schools and other organisations who identify and signpost individuals and families, to whom we make direct, weekly deliveries of fresh produce. Therefore we enhance the work of the primary , organisation to create a holistic support network - an exercise in Social Responsibility and an investment in people.

We Deliver

Once a week, on a Thursday, our volunteers collect a van full of quality fresh food that would otherwise have gone into landfill from the Felix Project, Waitrose, M&S and other local businesses. We pack and then deliver them in crates to many households in the local area. We as volunteers also benefit from this support.

We haven’t missed a single week since we started in June 2020..

We Grow

Our community allotment ROCKS! . and London clay.. and rocks!!

Still we make great use of it. It’s been trial and error, mainly error, but we’ve managed to grow potatoes, rhubarb, jerusalem artichokes, raspberries, courgettes and squash - all of which were shared across our households. We’ve hosted Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteers, and several keen trainee gardeners. We can’t wait to see what the next year brings!

We Preserve

We have organised jam making events in the community using the produce from the allotment. It goes down a treat!
